Dagwood’s Deli and Sports Bar has 2 locations. One is in Myrtle Beach just up the road from the Skywheel and the other location I went to in Surfside on Business 17.
Entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the hostess and she led us to our seats big enough to seat our group of 6. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday during lunch time. The first thing you see as we walked to our seats was the wall of TV’s above the long bar full of sports and some news channels since it was in the afternoon. There was a huge showcase of memorabilia behind the hostess’s station and the walls are packed with more including dozens of charicature drawings of patrons who are regulars.
I’ve been here several times before to watch baseball and football games. There are booths opposite the bar and each booth sat 6 to 8 people and has their own TV they can set to what they want to watch. Further back was more seating with booths and tables and of course, more TV’s.
The menu offers several deli sandwiches served with chips and pickle. I love the names of their local jumbo and deli sandwiches. The Shag based on the South Carolina state dance, The Beach Boy, The Southern, The Jogger, The Bad Billy (would love to hear the story of this one since I’m a Billy) and The “Brooks Brothers” (Dagwood’s favorite cousin) are on this list.
Dagwood’s specialty sandwiches include The Lynn Swann Dipper (you can guess where they are from), The Hail Mary Dipper, The Gamecock, Bubba’s Kickin’ Chicken are among over a dozen specialty sandwiches.
Cheesesteaks, Burgers, Salads, Appetizers, Fries, Onion Rings and Ice Cream Sundaes are among this huge menu. Speaking of HUGE, all their portions are huge and many represent two meals. Eat half now and take half home for a snack. I see couples many times sharing an order.
Back at our table, lots of laughter from picking on the birthday boy and telling recent stories shared by all, our orders arrived.
I have several favorite choices here but today I went for the Ball Park Special. 2 quarter pound beef hot dogs with fixings and I topped mine with diced onions, mustard and sauerkraut turning it into a couple of Coney Island hot dogs and it came with a fresh baked pretzel.
Currently just $6.99 and it was excellent.
The severs kept the birthday boy’s ice cream cake in the refrigerator until now. After adding the candles, we sang the “Happy Birthday to You” song and he opened presents. Our experience went perfect and we’ll definitely be back.
Dagwood’s Deli and Sports Bar has been in business since 1988. Lots of memories have happened here. If you’ve been here, you know what to expect. Join the locals for a great meal and good times. Maybe you are trivia buff and want to compete on Trivia night or just watch the ball games. Whatever your reason, you will be pleased with your experience.
There are two locations to visit in the area to bring your appetite to.
